SMM 2008 – GENERAL RELEASE

HATLAPA MARINE EQUIPMENT – FLEXIBILITY AND INNOVATION

HATLAPA’s steering gear range has now been further enlarged to meet all requirements even for the newest 13.000 TEU container ships which have rudder torques up to 10.000 kNm.

After several European company buy-outs, HATLAPA is the only non-Asian manufacturer of large ram-type steering gear. All competitors are Japanese makers who operate mainly as licensors in Korea and China.

HATLAPA has been able steadily to increase its market share during recent years and offers by far the most modern drive and control systems.

In addition, HATLAPA has developed its range of small compact steering gear further, starting at rudder torques of 30 kNm ideally suited to work boats and other smaller vessel types.

All hydraulic units for HATLAPA´s steering gear are designed and manufactured in house. As such from layout to development of different pump designs, to in house assembly and testing, HATLAPA ensures control of the whole design, engineering and production workflow, thereby ensuring total security and flexibility for after sales and service requirements. Also, as all components are in the daily workflow rapid spare parts service is also assured.

With the start-up of HATLAPA-Korea in early 2007 the approach for serving the Asian and especially the Korean shipbuilding market has been extended further.

HATLAPA’s proven cooperation with rudder supplier Becker Marine Systems (BMS) represents a valuable supplement to many fields of activities. The companies are aiming at extending their knowledge through an intensive exchange of experience, and optimising the fulfilment of customer requirements
by providing common product developments on rudder systems.

HATLAPA’s range of vane type steering gear currently exceeds 1500 kNm.
With this additional development, HATLAPA is the only supplier world-wide offering all available types of steering gear thereby meeting the requirements of all possible ship types.

HATLAPA Winches are found on all conceivable types of ships sailing the seas. Importance has always been laid on the development of the drives.

The importance in recent years of frequency inverter controlled A.C. motors should be specially highlighted.

More than 1000 winches with this motor type have been delivered. This HATLAPA development was patent-protected at an early stage and is differentiated by the creation of nominal pull even at zero speed. This is a key advantage for mooring winches in their holding function. The feature is also available as ex-proof design for all kinds of tankers and gas carriers.

HATLAPA anchor and mooring winches are of modular compact design, available with different types of foundations both to cater for varying shipyard requirements and to help minimise their costs by allowing alignment and installation on deck.

Anchor-Handling and Towing winches (up to pulls of 600 tons), research winches, and winches for other special purposes, which are developed and built in exact accordance with customer requirements, have formed a firm part of the HATLAPA product offering. Depending on the demands and customer requirements either low-pressure hydraulic, high-pressure hydraulic or electrical drives are installed.

The concentration of the Norwegian and British suppliers means that HATLAPA has now become one of two manufacturers of large, hydraulic high-torque, low-pressure motors in with system pressures of 65 bar. These drives cannot currently be surpassed with regard to sturdiness and reliability and are generally used for high capacity anchor, mooring and working winches.

HATLAPA has been famous for many years for its 2-stage-watercooled and 3-stage-aircooled compressor range. This range is now enhanced and enlarged with the range of V-Line starting air compressors and screw type working air compressors.

All production including purchasing and logistics is located in Germany where there has been significant investment in modern processing machines. The company has also invested heavily in efficient and largely automated order process control and stock & logistics management, to enable it to meet fully the needs of the world-wide ship supply industry.

HATLAPA’s global service support network is constantly expanding and developing, ready to serve ship operators at all times with its world-wide network of service stations, and quick availability of service engineers and spare parts.

Be it complete compressor management programmes for a shipowner´s entire fleet, annual HATLAPA-HYDRO-CHECK programme to check steering or support for all different winch makes including upgrading of systems according to OCIMF-recommendations and general retrofits, HATLAPA is a complete service partner.

HATLAPA’s headquarters is in Uetersen, near Hamburg, with a staff of 400 and an annual turnover of approx. 150 million EUR.
