S/S “KAUAI”

In September 2005 the S/S “KAUAI” underwent dry-docking at Nantong Shipyard in Nantong, China for executing various maintenance & repair works, as well as modification of the deck machinery. Superintendent John Jacoby was the lead from Matson.
One part of the modification required was the replacement of electro-hydraulic driven mooring winches (originally supplied by Kocks, Germany), while the second part included the conversion of the combined anchor and mooring winches with a chain of 68 mm / grade 3 and a rope pull of 150 kN (original make).
This conversion consisted of a complete new driving part together with a completely new electronic control system.
