The following information serves as a reminder on our maintenance recommendations. It should be passed to your vessels!

With time every brake lining is subject to wear. And just the brake on windlasses is used as slipping brake.

We have equipped the brakes with an adjusting spindle so that the brake lining can be used as long as possible which is our contribution to keeping costs low.

In case of wear, a sufficient braking surface is gained again by means of the adjusting spindle. The complete brake band is tightened, and the range is reduced depending on the actual condition.

Loss of an anchor is not only troublesome, but also dangerous and expensive. Loss of an anchor is also unnecessary and can be avoided in most cases by regular maintenance of the brake equipment.

In this connection we wish to point out that we recommend purchasing brake linings for HATLAPA winches only from HATLAPA. Brake linings which are provided by dealers for example do not have the friction values which have been designed by us.

Windlass brakes must have the approval of the classification societies.
Such approval is based on our calculations which includes the technical data for the brake linings used by us. This means especially the friction factors and the admissible surface pressure. The class approval may lapse if brake linings are used other than those prescribed by HATLAPA.
